Porkton is a community-built town on the Aporkalypse server. It is located about 2 km northeast of spawn (Map) and is quickly reachable via the Carpal Tunnel northbound.

Porkton is a community building project which was founded on 5 October 2010. While Arcolz selected the location and setup the roads and plots, most of the construction in the city was by the community. The idea is that it works like a real city. People build on their own land, but together everyone works to improve the city itself. It has roads, street signs, a community bulletin board, sewers, town walls, a functioning well, and more awesome stuff!

Building in Porkton

This expansion was started with the purpose of giving newer citizens of the Aporkalypse the chance to build in a fair city. The following is taken from arcolz's post.

All about a city plot

A plot is section of land you can claim and build on. They are parcels of land that extend all the way up to the sky limit and all the way down to bedrock. Most are 8x10, but in the expansion I've felt generous and placed some that are slightly larger. Each plot is easy to recognize by the cobble cornerstones I've placed. Feel free to remove those when you start working, but not before. You can pretty much build whatever you want on your plot: A house, a sculpture, a machine, a shrine. Well, almost anything. There are some limitations.

Plot limitations

Stay inside your plot! There is some leeway in extending out over the street above ground level, but otherwise, your 8x10 is what you get! Feel free to build up or dig down, but even underground stay inside your plot. The number one rule that was broken in previous construction was to dig down a few levels, then to extend outside of the plot underground. The reason this is bad thing is that even if you don't have a neighbor there now, you might have one later. It's best to be safe and courteous. No fire or lava! This is a new rule, but an important one. Minecraft is buggy as hell and fire tends to jump even when it makes no sense. People like building with wood and there are a few things more discouraging then coming back to a burned down structure. Note that this rule is in effect from now on. If you have already built in Porkton and your fire or lava isn't causing problems, feel free to leave it. Build only on plots! Plots are marked by cobblestone blocks on each corner. If there is empty land without cobblestone blocks, it's not a plot and shouldn't be built on. I'm probably planning on using it for something else later. No large open pits! If you want to dig out underneath your plot, that's fine, but please don't leave the huge pit open. Try to build something small on top at least, otherwise people fall in. Plus it looks strange to have a city with huge gaping holes in the ground That's it!. If you can do those few things, Porkton will be awesome!

Improving infrastructure

To improve infrastructure, ask Arcolz first, either in minecraft or by whispering him on this forum. He's open about pretty much anything, but would just like to know ahead of time so that they can make sure the improvement won't step on anyone's toes.

Assisting the community

The one thing Arcolz really doesn't want to do right now is extend the sewers into the new streets. The pattern is pretty simple and can be figured out from the preexisting sewers in the older parts of town. Feel free to go nuts with that.

Acquiring a plot

Arcolz says, "A couple of people have been clambering for a plot for a while. I want to give them first pick of new plots, so here's the order we'll do plot picking. If it is your turn to pick a plot, you can go ahead and claim one by sticking a sign on there or, preferably, going ahead and starting construction.

  • First pick - People who haven't had a chance to build and specifically asked for plots: The Whelk, mhkid, rollbiz, beardlace. If this is you, go ahead and grab a plot now.
  • Second pick - People who haven't had a chance to build in Porkton yet. If this is you, I'll make a post when you can pick out a plot.
  • Third pick - The veterans who have already built something in Porkton and want to keep building. If this is you, I'll make a post when you can pick out a plot OR you may be one of Porkton's MASTER BUILDERS! (sorry). It's a contest I'm holding where the winners get a luxurious 11x11 plot in the Porkton expansion. I'll post a thread about this soonish.
