Mont Saint-Michel
Mont Saint-Michel (MSM) is a project that was started on Aporkalypse in early September 2012 by mapcratic. It is located at roughly -1275 2275 on Repork, about 2 km southwest of Spawn. It is an authentic 1:1 re-creation of Mont Saint-Michel (Wikipedia article) located in northwest France.

Getting there
To get there, get a minecart if convenient. Start at /spawn. Go into the Nether. Take a few steps south to the Overnether lift. Right-click on the Overnether lift to go topside. Walk south to the glass & glowstone building and look for the sign that says Orange Line (tram). Take the tram or follow the tracks, and get off at the Mont St Michel stop (a tram stop was added 11/5/2012). Go to the smoothstone structure (-168,128,299) to access the Mont St Michel portal (-156,98,294).
Coordinates
Mont Saint-Michel is located on Reporkalypse (RPO) southwest of Spawn. Exact locations of various places on MSM are as follows:
- Workshop and portal: x-1248 y+98 z+2353
- Old workshop, storage room, and mine: x-1357 y+60 z+2393
- Old workshop level 12: x-1357 y+11 z+2338
Rules and guidelines
The MSM project is owned by mapcratic, but since mapcratic will probably not realistically be able to build the whole thing and may even take a vacation from the project, all users are welcome to perform unsupervised work at any time according to these guidelines:
- All terrain, buildings, roadways, and structures should be built in accordance with the diagrams below in order to produce a realistic 1:1 scale model of Mont Saint-Michel.
- All terrain and buildings must be torched as you build to prevent hostile mob spawn. This is very important since creepers will not produce a crater but a dangerous hole in the mountain.
- Creeper explosions on the mountain must be patched up so others don't fall in a hole.
- Most of the work needed as of September 29 is terrain dirt fill. Mapcratic has constructed a "skeleton framework" which is accurate three-dimensionally. Dirt can be placed between frames visually (eyeballing it) without consulting the official plans, as long as the dirt follows the terrain realistically.
- Enthusiastic builders are welcome to build the mountaintop abbey in accordance with the plans below, as well as any other structure which exists in the plans.
- Many of the real-life structures on MSM are at different angles to one another, meaning they'll be impossible to model perfectly in Minecraft. Just build them in the correct location as best as you can. The entire project is rotated 20 degrees from true north to make sure that the mountaintop abbey does in fact line up correctly with the Minecraft grid.
- Most structures will end up being recessed into the terrain.
- When in doubt, place the dirt low. It's easier for one of us to correct it upward with dirt fill than to have to lower it.
- The inside will be kept hollow and torched. We may turn this into an unlit mob arena later.
