Feed The Beast is an MFC-community Minecraft server modded with the Feed The Beast modification pack. These mods implement a vast number of machinery, engines, ores, tools, and other objects, plus some of the major industrial mod packs including Buildcraft 3, IndustrialCraft 2, Railcraft, and Steve's Carts 2. Note that the MFC Feed The Beast server is not part of Aporkalypse, but many of its players play there, and vice versa.

How to connect

Feed The Beast is a standalone Minecraft implementation which is very easy to install, requires none of the tinkering with JAR or ZIP files, and it won't disturb your existing Minecraft version.

  1. Download the client and install it. For Windows users, the EXE launcher might be the best option. Linux and Mac users must use the JAR launcher.
  2. Once in the installer, create a profile using your Minecraft login info.
  3. IMPORTANT: Make sure that FTB Ultimate Pack is selected. If you can't connect to the server, it's probably because you missed this step.
  4. Launch the game. You will be prompted to update your client. This step may take a couple minutes as the game loads ALL the mods, plus the correct Minecraft version to be used by FTB.
  5. Launch the game AGAIN. There's a bug in the launcher that makes it always run an update the second time it launches the game.
  6. Get the Rotato FTB Updater and run it. Windows users should run "rotato-ftb.bat", Mac users "rotato-ftb.command", and Linux users "rotato-ftb.sh". This tweaks some of your FTB files to match what's running on the server. At the moment it isn't strictly necessary to do this to connect to the server, but if you don't some of your crafting recipes will be wrong. The updater also installs OptiFine for you.
  7. Every time FTB updates, run the Rotato FTB Updater again, since updating clobbers the modifications it makes. Probably make sure that the server also updated before you update. You're a Minecraft player, you know the drill.
  8. Set up a Multiplayer connection to minecraft.denofsyn.com
  9. Bask in your newfound Minecraft ignorance as you struggle to figure out what to do next. The mobs are the same as on regular Minecraft and it's on hardcore mode. You can do your usual vanilla Minecraft mining if you like, but you'll find a lot of cool minerals while you're at it.

What's in FTB?

FTB can be pretty overwhelming at first. Check out the FTB Mod List to see what's what.

Communicating via IRC

To summon any of the admins, you can use IRC. The channel is #ftb on irc.lunarnet.org. Chat from the server is relayed to the channel, and vice versa.
