Big Room is the name given to any number of outrageously large community subterranean excavations. The objective is nothing else than to create a big room. In the process, substantial amounts of ore and rubble are collected.
Original Big Rooms
- Big Room I. This Big Room came together in Temporkalypse 2 (Lakeview). It was fairly modest, measuring about 110 x 24 x 12 meters in size, and contained a rollercoaster, an Iron Council board room, a tree farm, and a nature & art area with an arched roof.
- Big Room II. When Aporkalypse came back online after Temporkalypse 2 in March 2011, a major Big Room excavation took place near the town of Sunrise. This remains probably the largest Big Room to date, and can still be viewed about 11 km north of APK Spawn. It contains a large number of shops, tourist attractions, and art exhibits. There is also a Miner's Museum and a Big Room Executive Boardroom.
- Big Room III. This Big Room was created in Temporkalypse 3 in April 2011. Its most prominent feature was a bright lava and glass ceiling. It housed an art competition.
- Big Room IV. The last of the Big Rooms was created in Temporkalypse 4 in June 2011. This Big Room contained grass and a central garden area, along with a tunnel to Nigeria, which could be entered if a suitably large bribe was paid.
Projects similar to Big Room
- Big Dig in Temporkalypse 4 (originally a secret project).
- Stronghold excavations in Beans (Discordia) and Reporkalypse.
- Terrarium I (Beans Chicago) and Terrarium II (APK) which focused on building a large glass pyramid rising out of the ground. Needless to say, the majority of the excavation was underground, creating a Big Room type atmosphere.
