Rules for building

Wander around and find an area that nobody has developed yet. The Aporkalypse maps are helpful for this. Once you've found an area that looks uninhabited, check carefully to make sure it's empty. Torchlines, signs, fences, or non-natural structures are considered to be markers which establish a claim on the land, and you should look elsewhere. If you only find torches in random patterns without any of the other land claim markers, you can consider the land as unused and claim it. If you are within an established town or city, it's safest to assume that you're within somebody's private project until you're certain it's a public project. Before building in such a place, look for a city hall or project workshop and check for any rules, see if the city has a Wiki page, or ask people online. Finally, the entirety of the server rules are found here. Check those rules if you still are unsure or ask a moderator for help.

Places

As of August 2012, Aporkalypse has been divided into three worlds: Repork, Apork, and Pigdig. You are welcome to build in any or all of them. Bear in mind that Pigdig, like any Tempork world, is temporary and the world may get erased or replaced at any time. Repork is great to build at if you don't mind hostile mobs or enjoy building grinders. For all others, Apork is generally the best place to build since it's a huge world, has no creepers to mess up your creations, and has thousands of projects, ruins, highways, and odd projects that you may want to be near. Anywhere along the Intersnout highways or in the overworld in the vicinity of NHN stations are always good places to build, or you can head off into the hills as far from civilization as you like.
