The Carpal Tunnel is an underground canal system that served as a primary backbone between Porkton, Second Continent, and Spawn on Aporkalypse. An above-ground canal was initially suggested until TooMuchPete steered the idea toward an underground network, so that it wouldn't overwhelm development along its length. With the primary entrance offshore of the default spawn area, the Carpal originally connected map marker 35 boat drop-in with the town of Porkton to the northeast. Nekro expanded this to Stochastic station. Expansion continued until it was just twenty north of spawn's dock. A later extension goes from the spawn entrance westwards, to New Hamsterdam Thus, the Carpal Tunnel now serves to connect and facilitate transport between the two major towns on Aporkalypse.

History

After the founding of Porkton on 5 October 2013, a means of convenient access was needed to Spawn, with the overland route being in wilderness. ANSWER, Eerie Canal, and Transcontinental Waterway were early candidates for names, until Kattulus of Big Floaty Notional Park fame suggested "Carpal Tunnel".

Recent changes

The Carpal Tunnel lost much of its original utility when boat steering was switched from being handled client-side to server-side. the resultant lag caused boats to veer uncontrollably and crash into the canal walls, rendering the system useless for fast travel. The center lane of the carpal tunnel is currently being fitted with a bidirectional tram system which will serve as a primary transportation network for locations between Aporkalyps's major cities.

Technical note: The Carpal Tunnel canal system is a system resource hog due to the amount of water present. While riding in a minecart down the canal, the framerate can drop below 10 fps. Turning off the sound can remedy this, for some reason.
