Aporkalypse is the largest, oldest, and most diverse world in the Aporkalypse multiverse. It has been in continuous operation since August 4, 2010, with the exception of late fall 2011 and early summer 2012, when it was temporarily down due to upgrade incompatibility issues. It is currently operated as a secondary world to Repork.

World Details

The Aporkalypse world is extremely large, measuring approximately 33 by 33 km, consisting of about 5 million generated chunks, and occupying about 25 GB of disk space. It was offline from September to December 2011 due to problems with upgrades. At the time of its December 2011 reinstatement, it introduced a snow wall at the 16384 and -16384 coordinates. All chunks within the snow wall were "old" chunks and mobs were off, while chunks outside the snow wall were "new" chunks and mobs were on. This allowed a diversity of game play on the same server. However due to server load issues, all hostile mobs were turned off in January 2012 and it remains that way to this day. The vast majority of Minecraft builds are on Apork, and it remains a favored creative building location due to the absence of destructive mobs.

Getting around

Apork has a surprisingly extensive system of roads and even several major Intersnout System expressways. The fastest way to travel long distances, however, is to use the Nether Hub Network (NHN).

Abbreviated history

2010. Aporkalypse was started August 4, 2010 as a survival multiplayer server by TooMuchPete. It began with approximately 10 unique users its first week, 25 members on September 12th, and as of October 30th 2010 that number rose to approximately 160. The cities of Porkton and New Hamsterdam appeared, and later in the year Porkton was linked to Spawn via the Carpal Tunnel. Temporkalypse I ran from December 20-27, 2010.

March 2011. A Minecraft upgrade caused the introduction of Tempork 2, which ran from February 23 to March 8. When Apork came back, there was the massive Big Room II project at Sunrise. Then there followed a huge buildout of rail lines all over the map.

April 2011. Another Minecraft upgrade led to the creation of Tempork 3, which ran from April 19 to 25. Here the community began experimenting with survival mode and grinders. Aporkalypse came back along with the introduction of survival mode. Besterly and Tincanbot appeared, and Isle of Rock was completed (a large island with no dirt or sand). Mos Eisley and several huge Star Wars projects were built near Isle of Rock.

May 2011. This was the month of grinders. It seemed everyone was building one, be it large or small. User joecacti built a massive system of Intersnout long-distance highways that started in Porkton and eventually reached Algebracon, Hub St John, Sunrise, and Morepork.

June 2011. Tempork 4 was put online from June 1 to around June 15. It was relatively forgettable and was rather spread out. When Apork came back, the Nether was introduced. This led to a Land Run in the Nether with a tunnel & rail buildout.

July 2011. It was decided warps were going away, so everyone embarked on linking everything up via a Nether rail backbone called NHN (Nether Hub Network). The Nether is better for transit since distances are 8 times closer in that realm.

August 2011. Knodding & sdoleck's Lavarinth creation was big news. Warps were switched off, leaving the NHN as the only viable way for going long distances (except for /home and /spawn). Slaughterhouse 5 was enlarged and improved, and is a favorite grinder hangout.

September 2011. Aporkalypse was taken offline to prepare for numerous Minecraft changes, and Beans/Boston was put online. A long debate started on the forums about if & how to allow hostile mobs when the server returns, partly due to the potential for Endermen to gradually damage Aporkalypse's hundreds of creations.

October 2011. Beans/Boston was eventually retired. On October 13, Beans/Discordia was started (see map), which culminated in several large projects like Syncinnati and the Stronghold Excavation. The primary Aporkalypse server, pork, was offline.

November 2011. Beans/Discordia was retired. Around Thanksgiving, Beans/Chicago was put online. The primary Aporkalypse server, pork, remained offline.

December 2011. Players continued to play the only available server, Beans/Chicago. Christmas came early with the return of Aporkalypse, ending three months of play on Beans servers. Unfortunately with the 90-degree compass change in Minecraft, many of the rail stations broke and chests were rotated into walls.

January 2012. The big project of the month was Terrarium 2, located outside the northeast corner of the snow wall, headed by greenie2600. There were also numerous individual projects around the snow walls, including a naval base near the southwest pole.

May 24, 2012. The Aporkalypse world was retired and replaced by Reporkalypse.

August 24, 2012. Aporkalypse was activated once again and linked to Reporkalypse and Pigdig to form a multiverse server.

Public release

The owner, TooMuchPete, agreed in June 2012 to eventually release the original Aporkalypse world to the public. Due to the large (25 GB) size of the files, distribution would be through a combination of torrents and physical sharing. This plan was cancelled in August 2012 due to the reactivation of this world.
